922 Décor Co with new entrepreneur Lauren Hudson
You may have seen a chic white tiny house with wheels being pulled around lately, right here, in and around the communityand wondered what on Earth it could be. Well, it is the newest traveling mobile storefront, 922 Décor Co, owned and operated by New Castle’s own Lauren Hudson. 922 Décor Co officially launched July 2nd, 2021, in New Castle downtown on Broad Street. Customer reaction and enthusiasm was swift and fast.Lauren said on the opening day, a lot of local people came to support her, and the customer feedback was amazing. Everyone seemed to love the idea of a tiny house store on wheels. Right from the opening day, it was predicted that the store was going to be a success and over the course of the last two months, it appears those predictions are coming true. I had the pleasure of talking with Lauren Hudson about her business, future goals and why shopping local is so important.
“I have always loved home décor and designing things. For as long as I can remember I have always joked that, one day I would own my own decor store.” Lauren seems to beam with excitement when talking about her business. “My initial plan was to have a brick-and-mortar storefront. I looked at several properties in town and nothing seemed like the right fit to me at the time. I wanted to start a store beyond selling on Facebook and I eventually came up with the idea of a mobile store. I reached out to a contractor, and I had my store custom built just for my decor. I instantly fell in love with it, and it has been amazing so far!” When asked about the name of the store she says that 922 has a sentimental meaning behind it; a very special date to her. The store carries a variety of décor styles, but she carries mostly, modern farmhouse style décor, which happens to be her personal favorite.
She does not currently have any items that are available to purchase at her store made by local artisans, but she is planning to start reaching out very soon. “If you are a local artisan and are interested in selling your items in my store, I am definitely open to that!” She continues talking about how important it is to shop locally in and around your community. She also offers some advice to those who may be wanting to start their own business. “Shopping local is very important especially in today’s world. We, as a community, definitely need to do our best to support our local businesses. My best advice to someone aspiring to be an entrepreneur is to just ‘go for it’. You can start small and work your way to the top. Hard work, passion and dedication is what I believe makes an entrepreneur successful. You won’t have all the answers when you start a business but each day you learn something new to make your business better.” Lauren is living and breathing her own advice because over the last several weeks, her Facebook business page has picked up hundreds of new likes and Facebook interactions, only growing from there.
Her business hours vary due to the building being on wheels and traveling a lot, throughout Indiana and Ohio at different festivals and locations. She keeps her Facebook business page updated with her ongoing and upcoming events. Lauren also explains that she does sell quite a bit though Facebook too and offers local pick up or shipping. Which makes it nice for people who want to purchase online. Her Facebook business page can be found under the name, 922 Décor Co and is ran by Lauren herself.
“I am the sole owner of 922 Decor. I have a very supportive partner, Brent, who has helped me along the whole journey though. Creating a business from scratch requires a lot of dedication. Starting a business requires of a lot of late nights, early mornings & most importantly you have to believe in yourself. I do have big goals for the future. I have plans of eventually expanding into something more permanent here in our community but in the meantime, I will be sticking to my mobile store.” Lauren’s upcoming events are October 2nd at the Whitetail Tree Farm for their Pumpkin Harvest Festival, as well as October 9th at the Belgian Horse Winery. Contact Lauren through 922 Décor Co on Facebook for more information and thank you Lauren for your time and contributions to your community.
