“CHEW THAT!”
grill’t
Blaise Doubman
The secret is out! New Castle’s finest BBQ place, grill’t, is staying put! A few days ago, it was announced on their official Facebook page that their lease had been renewed and they were going to stay at their current location at 535 North Memorial Drive. They even celebrated the news by giving away free sliders! What a way to celebrate huh?

I have eaten at grill’t several times and even stopped by a year or so ago for a catering package to go. They offer not only some of the most delicious and mouth watering food, eat it there or take it to go, they also offer some of the counties most delicious catering! Their menu is super simple but super delicious. I have found that if you go to a restaurant and they have an overwhelming amount of food choices and options, that just simply means everything can not be made fresh. It just can not. It is impossible, especially for a small local business, to have 58 things on the menu and each one be made fresh and delicious each day. It just does not happen. You know what I mean?

grill’t offers one meat, one side meals, one meat two side meals and two meat two side meals. Each meal comes with one meat, except ribs, and the southern side(s) of your choice, as well as, get this, buns, pickles, jalapeños and their signature BBQ sauce, “Sweet Smack’n Sauce”.

Their meat consists of a dry rubbed pork shoulder that they transform into a pulled pork, chicken thighs that they low smoke and season with their secret house blend of seasoning that they turn into a delicious pulled chicken. Boneless marinated chicken thighs that they top with their seasoning and grill to perfection that they serve as their fabulous grilled chicken. Now, get ready for this next one because it is my all time favorite! Their brisket! Second to none! Their brisket is inspired by the great state of Texas and is beefy and smoked with a kick of pepper. Literally this brisket will melt in your mouth. Finally, they also offer rib tips that are trimmed, tender and cooked low and slow. I highly, highly recommend you try their brisket. It is nothing like anything had!
Moving on to their side dishes, each homemade and equally delicious, I would have to say that I also have a favorite in this category too. Their smack Mac is elbow noodles submerged in a rich flavored five cheese blend that will knock your socks off! Now, hear me out on this, this next one is my favorite. Their “cheesy diced spuds” is like what we in Indiana may know as “funeral potatoes” but theirs is top notch. Theirs is a mixture of diced potatoes, covered in a cheese sauce, topped with shredded cheese and butter, followed by a fabulous buttery bread crumb crust. It is out of this World good! They also offer baked beans, which they prepare with their original BBQ sauce and slow cook. Ann’s slaw is also offered and the perfect combination of mayonnaise and vinegar. Like collard greens? Theirs is beyond superb. They take fresh collard greens and shred them, simmer them in a smoked pork and vinegar base and serve them piping hot. Although, I do know some people who love these cold just as well. Rounding out their fabulous sides are their green beans, which taste like my Great Grandma would have made. So much deep and rich flavor. They take their green beans and combine them with diced onion and hickory smoked bacon to really bring things to the next level.

They also offer dessert, of course, and I too have a favorite in this category. Their banana cream pudding is simply indescribable. You have to try it for yourself! It is creamy whipped banana pudding with a vanilla wafer crumble and then it is all drizzled in caramel! Right! They also offer canny biscuits, which are their made from scratch biscuits topped with a blend of honey, caramel and cinnamon. I mean, really how bad could that be?
They also offer their meats and sides in bulk, and their meats in slider sizes.
