Up until a few years ago, I did not even know what cinnamon toast was! I know, I know. I had heard of “Cinnamon Toast Crunch” cereal but knew nothing about cinnamon toast. Well, skip ahead to several Facebook posts later and a friend of mine, Angel Davis who actually sent me an instructional video, I learned how to make it and now I love it! I add a little extra icing drizzle on top for good measure because, why not? This is my favorite recipe for cinnamon toast! I thought about sharing it in my “CHEW THIS!” column – which now also appears in “The Shelbyville News” newspaper on Thursdays! – but thought I would share it here with everyone instead because I simply could not wait!
Cinnamon Toast
2 slices white bread
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1/3 cup white granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Whole milk
Start by toasting your white bread. Once toasted, let cool.
Spread evenly with the softened unsalted butter.
In a small bowl combine the white granulated sugar with the ground cinnamon.
Sprinkle this mixture evenly across both slices of toast. Shake to remove the excess.
In a small bowl combine the powdered sugar with the pure vanilla extract and pinch of salt. Add in the whole milk very little at a time until you get an icing that is easily spreadable, not too thick and not too thin. Drizzle evenly over both pieces of toast.
Enjoy!
