Amber’s Sloppy Joe Toasts

Blaise Doubman

This recipe comes to me from my friend Amber Layton, who shared it on her Facebook page. She is always sharing some of the most delicious recipes! She tried this one and posted her results and said she really liked it. So, I took a screenshot and decided to make it myself but with a few changes. I made it and loved it and had to share it here today with all of you! If my readers will remember there was a recipe I shared awhile back that was for Texas toast pizzas. They were a huge hit with people and I am still getting emails about them! Well, this recipe is sort of like that but topped with a Sloppy Joe mixture instead of cheese and pepperoni.

The recipe Amber originally shared, was slightly different than the one I am sharing here today. Her recipe called for a French bread, cut and buttered, baked and served that way. I, on the other hand, thought why not just use Texas toast? I am sure it would be delicious with the French bread, cut, buttered and garlic smeared but I figured my way would be a short cut version. Like I said, I tried it and it worked beautifully. It was perfect! I would say, a couple of tips, be sure to get a good quality garlic bread. These breads are going to be heavy and you want something substantial to stand up to the filling on top. Also, another thing, use whatever “meat” you want. Amber used ground turkey in hers! Use ground chicken, pork or anything you desire. The cheese is also up to the individual. Experiment with this recipe and have fun!

Amber’s Sloppy Joe Toasts

Leftovers should be kept covered and chilled for up to 3 days.

1 pound ground beef

1 can Manwich

1 chopped onion

1 box Texas toast

2 cups shredded Colby-Jack cheese

Start by preheating your oven to 425 degrees F.

Spray a large baking sheet with non-stick spray.

Line up the Texas toasts on the prepared baking sheet.

In a large skillet over medium high heat, brown the ground beef.

Add in the chopped onion and cook until the onion is soft.

Once the ground beef is browned, drain well.

Return the ground beef to the skillet and add the Manwich. Bring this up to a slight boil then reduce the heat and allow to simmer for about 20 minutes.

Divide the meat mixture evenly among the toasts.

Divide the shredded cheese evenly among the toasts, topping each of them well.

Bake, in preheated oven, for 20 minutes.

Remove and cool slightly before enjoying.
